Description
Join us in the commercial kitchen at the Ukrainian Hall of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Saskatoon for a hands-on traditional Paska baking workshop led by master baker Pat Hawryliw. Paska—the beautifully decorated Easter bread at the heart of Ukrainian spring rituals—symbolizes renewal, abundance, and the joy of the Resurrection. In this workshop, participants will learn how to prepare, shape, and adorn their paska using time-honoured techniques Pat first learned growing up in her family’s bakery. Whether you are baking your first Paska or refining a family tradition, you’ll leave with practical skills, inspiration, and a deeper connection to this cherished ritual bread.
Born and raised in Saskatoon, Patricia (Pat) Hawryliw brings a lifetime of experience in music, teaching, baking, and community leadership. Trained in her family’s well-known Nestor’s Bakery, Pat is an accomplished baker whose pasky, kolachi, and korovai are matched by very few. A longtime educator and dedicated parish and UWAC member, she has led numerous cultural programs, sung in choirs for more than 75 years, and published a bestselling book on Ukrainian ritual breads that clearly explains their history and techniques. Pat has taught breadmaking workshops across the Canadian Prairies, where she continues to inspire new generations to carry forward these beloved traditions.
