Please email info@umcnational.ca to be added to a wait list. Thank you!

Learn the basics of tapestry weaving, a versatile craft found in cultures around the world and beloved by Ukrainians. Using a simple frame loom, participants will practice building simple shapes, maintaining proper tension, and the steps to start and finish a woven piece. The first class will focus on understanding warp and weft tension, and the use of discontinuous weft to create shapes. Students will either finish their piece during class time, or purchase their loom to finish their piece at home.

Instructor Emily Hitz learned the foundations of European tapestry weaving from a master tapestry weaver in California. She teaches contemporary weaving through her business, Craft School YXE.

$65+tax for non-Members / $55+tax for Members

All supplies will be provided by the Museum. Participants will have the option of purchasing their own loom and weaving needles for take-home practice for an additional $30.
