Opening Reception for Bonnie Conly / Force Field
Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 PM

You are invited to join us for the opening of Bonnie Conly’s Force Field, an installation of 100 handmade Motanka dolls. This exhibition honours the contributions and actions of Ukrainian women since the Russian attack on Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Bonnie Conly is a Ukrainian Canadian contemporary artist who has mastered the ancient art of Motanka-making. Motankas (Мотанка) are ancient Ukrainian talismans believed to embody female spirit and power. They are a channel for the continuous connection between generations of family – past living, and unborn – and they symbolize goodness, prosperity, and hope. A Motanka placed in a home is believed to protect the family, absorbing diseases and safeguarding the household’s inhabitants from evil spirits.

The artist will be present at the exhibition opening event on September 22. Force Field will remain on display until the end of 2022.
