Stories Cast in Bronze
Saskatoon sculptor Bill Epp created this striking set of bronze doors for the Ukrainian Museum of Canada in 1985 as part of the Saskatchewan Heritage Commemorative Project. Originally greeting visitors at the Museum’s entrance, the doors were moved indoors in 2004 to preserve them for future generations.
Through flowing bronze reliefs, Heritage Doors in Bronze captures defining moments in Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian history—from the Christianization of Kyiv and the struggles of Russian imperial rule and serfdom, to emancipation, migration to the Canadian prairies, and the emergence of Ukrainian voices in literature, such as the first Ukrainian Canadian novel, Sons of the Soil. The work invites reflection on continuity, resilience, and the shaping of cultural identity across generations.
