Mission, Vision & Values

Honouring Our Founders

The vision, mission, and values of the Museum are rooted in those of our founders, the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada. These women established our institution to nurture the Ukrainian Canadian heritage as a living culture.

We honour our founders and all the successive generations of Ukrainians who have supported the Museum with their creativity, hard work, and resources.

Our Vision

We are committed to ensuring that the diversity, richness, and impact of the culture, history, and heritage of Ukrainian people in Canada, Ukraine, and around the globe are valued, understood, and celebrated.

Our Mission

The Ukrainian Museum of Canada cultivates rich and diverse knowledge and appreciation of the experiences, cultures, and histories of Ukrainians in Canada, Ukraine, and the greater diaspora.

The Canadian prairies, where the first wave of Ukrainian immigrants to Canada were settled, are home to Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuliné (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Dakota, Lakota, and Métis people.

The Ukrainian Museum of Canada is located in Treaty 6 territory and the traditional homeland of the Métis. We acknowledge that Ukrainian settlement was part of a colonizing process in which First Nations and Métis people were displaced.

We affirm The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and are committed to dialogue about the historic and ongoing relationships between our peoples.
