We’re thrilled to welcome Saskatoon-based artist Betsy Rosenwald as the Ukrainian Museum of Canada’s newest Artist in Residence. Betsy will be working onsite throughout summer and fall, preparing for a solo exhibition that will open in January 2026.

Betsy’s bold, thought-provoking paintings have been widely exhibited across Canada, the US, and internationally. Her recent collaborative installation Journal of the Plague Year(s): 2020–2023—an urgent visual response to the pandemic and climate crisis—was featured at the Remai Modern. It included a monumental site-painted wall work.

Betsy is originally from Boston, with ancestors hailing from Ukraine and Poland. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from Beloit College and an MFA from Brooklyn College. Her early career blossomed in the vibrant East Village art scene in New York. She has held numerous residencies around the world, most recently in France. In 2023, she was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for her contributions to Saskatchewan’s arts community.

Betsy’s work is represented by The Gallery / art placement in Saskatoon, and can be found in private and public collections throughout North America.

We look forward to sharing more about her research and creative process this summer—stay tuned!
