Artist Betsy Rosenwald in Conversation at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Saskatoon

Mar 27 / 2026

  • Media Releases

The Ukrainian Museum of Canada invites the public to a special Artist’s Talk with Betsy Rosenwald on Saturday, April 18 at 2 PM, featuring a conversation with the artist herself and Museum’s Executive Director, Jen Budney.

Developed during her 2025 residency as Artist-in-Residence at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Rosenwald’s exhibition To Understanding, Through Understanding presents a compelling body of drawings and paintings that explore themes of identity, memory, and migration. Through deeply personal research, the artist traces her family’s roots to Ukrainian cities including L’viv, Belz, and Bila Tserkva, reframing her understanding of heritage and belonging.

Rosenwald’s work engages with complex histories shaped by violence and displacement, with particular attention to the experiences of Jewish communities in Ukraine. By weaving intimate family narratives with broader historical realities, her practice offers a nuanced and deeply human perspective on cultural memory.

During the Artist’s Talk, Rosenwald will reflect on her residency, her research process, and the evolution of the exhibition, as well as the meaningful conversations her work has already inspired. The discussion will offer insight into an artistic practice that bridges personal discovery and collective history.

To Understanding, Through Understanding remains on view at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada until May 2, 2026.
