Position Summary
The Docent & Visitor Services Assistant supports the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UMC) in delivering an exceptional visitor experience during the busy summer season. Working Wednesday through Sunday, the student will lead tours, support front-of-house operations, assist with summer programs, and engage diverse audiences with the Museum’s exhibitions and collections.
This role provides training in museum interpretation, visitor engagement, and public-facing cultural work—valuable skills for future careers in museums, arts organizations, cultural institutions, education, and heritage fields.
Key Responsibilities
1. Visitor Experience & Front Desk Operations
• Welcome visitors and provide information about exhibitions and programs
• Process admissions, shop sales, and memberships using the POS system
• Maintain a tidy and welcoming entrance, lobby, and gift shop area
• Answer phone calls and assist with general inquiries
2. Guided Tours & Public Interpretation
• Deliver scheduled and on-demand tours of Folk Imaginaries: Ukrainian Clothing as Memory and Imagination and The Ukrainian Pioneer Women Series by William Kurelek
• Share cultural and historical insights related to Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian experiences
• Adapt interpretation styles for families, seniors, newcomers, and tour groups
• Assist multilingual visitors using translation tools (Ukrainian/French an asset but not required)
3. Program & Event Support
• Assist staff with preparing and delivering summer workshops (e.g., vinok, beading)
• Set up program spaces and ensure materials are ready
• Support visitor engagement during events and group bookings
4. Exhibition Support
• Assist with basic exhibition maintenance tasks
• Report accessibility or engagement issues to staff
5. Administrative & Research Support
• Collect visitor statistics and assist with weekly visitation reports
• Conduct basic research for tour scripts or interpretive materials
• Help update front-of-house manuals and visitor services resources
Qualifications (Required)
• Returning to full-time studies in Fall 2026 (YCW requirement)
• Canadian citizen or permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible); (YCW requirement)
• Are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfort engaging with the public and speaking to groups
• Interest in Ukrainian culture, museums, history, heritage, education, or the arts
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Basic computer literacy (email, Google Workspace; POS training provided)
Assets (Not Required)
• Academic background in Ukrainian studies, immigration history, Western Canadian history, cultural studies, or art history
• Experience in customer service, teaching, camp counselling, or guiding
• Ability to speak Ukrainian, French, or another language
Training & Mentorship
Training will be provided in:
• museum interpretation and tour delivery
• inclusive visitor engagement
• point-of-sale and membership processing
• exhibition content and cultural context
• emergency procedures and safe practices in public spaces
Regular check-ins will be held with the Development and Engagement Officer, with additional mentorship from the Executive Director.
Working Conditions
• Onsite at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (910 Spadina Crescent East, Saskatoon)
• Some light lifting and movement across gallery spaces required
Regular schedule is Wednesday–Sunday, supporting peak visitation and weekend programming

Position Summary
The Collections Assistant supports the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UMC) in maintaining and enhancing its extensive collection of textiles, artefacts, and fine art. Working closely with the Collections and Digital Assets Officer, the student will assist with cataloguing, condition reporting, storage organization, and digitization.
This role provides hands-on experience in collections management, documentation, and preservation—valuable skills for future careers in museums, archives, galleries, and heritage organizations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Acquisitions & Accessions
• Assist with bringing new items into the collection, including communication with donors and completing associated documentation
2. Cataloguing & Data Entry
• Complete descriptive cataloguing of artefacts, including objects, textiles, and artwork
• Input catalogue records and images into the Museum’s collections management system (PastPerfect)
3. Condition Reporting & Preservation
• Inspect artefacts and complete condition reports
• Ensure accurate documentation to support long-term preservation
4. Storage & Organization
• Safely store artefacts using appropriate protective measures
• Reorganize storage areas to improve access and retrieval
5. Digitization Support
• Assist with photography, scanning, and uploading images to the Museum’s database and website
6. Research Support
• Conduct basic research to support provenance and historical context of artefacts
7. General Collections Support
• Help maintain clean, safe, and organized collections storage areas
• Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support collections projects
Qualifications (Required)
• Returning to full-time studies in Fall 2026 (YCW requirement)
• Canadian citizen or permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible); (YCW requirement)
• Are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to take initiative and stay motivated on long-term projects
• Interest in cultural heritage, history, or museum studies
• Ability to handle artefacts carefully and follow preservation guidelines
• Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; database training provided)
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

• Previous experience in a museum, gallery, or archival setting

Position Summary
The Library and Archives Assistant supports the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UMC) in organizing, cataloguing, and preserving its library and archival collections. These collections include books, documents, photographs, and rare materials related to Ukrainian history, arts and crafts, religion, literature, music, and community life.
Working closely with museum staff, the student will help ensure materials are properly documented, digitized, and accessible for research and public use. This role provides hands-on experience in library and archival practices—valuable for future careers in archives, libraries, museums, and heritage organizations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Library Organization & Cataloguing
Organize and catalogue books and reference materials
Enter bibliographic and descriptive data into the Museum’s cataloguing system (PastPerfect)
Perform basic preservation tasks, including rehousing and identifying fragile materials
Use basic reading knowledge of Ukrainian to interpret titles, authors, and subject matter
2. Archival Assistance
Assist with arranging, describing, and cataloguing archival materials (letters, manuscripts, documents, photographs)
Support digitization activities, including scanning, metadata creation, and digital file management
Contribute to archival research and special projects as needed
3. General Support
Assist with public programs, workshops, and museum events as required
Help maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment for visitors and researchers
Work collaboratively with staff to support library and archival initiatives
Qualifications (Required)
• Returning to full-time studies in Fall 2026 (YCW requirement)
